How to play Rummy
Objective
Be the first to meld every card in your hand, then score the value of opponents' remaining cards.
Setup
- Two to four players; 10 cards each for two players, 7 each for three or four.
- One card starts the discard pile.
Rules
- Draw one card from the stock or discard pile, then discard one.
- Melds are three or four of a kind, or a run of three or more in one suit.
- Once a meld is on the table, any player may lay off matching cards onto it.
- Going out ends the hand; every other player scores penalty points for their remaining cards.
Strategy tips
- Melding early gives you lay-off targets later.
- Holding a meld back can score more, but it's a gamble.
- Watch which cards opponents pick from the discard pile.
