How to play Rummy

Objective

Be the first to meld every card in your hand, then score the value of opponents' remaining cards.

Setup

• Two to four players; 10 cards each for two players, 7 each for three or four.
• One card starts the discard pile.

Rules

1. Draw one card from the stock or discard pile, then discard one.
2. Melds are three or four of a kind, or a run of three or more in one suit.
3. Once a meld is on the table, any player may lay off matching cards onto it.
4. Going out ends the hand; every other player scores penalty points for their remaining cards.

Strategy tips

• Melding early gives you lay-off targets later.
• Holding a meld back can score more, but it's a gamble.
• Watch which cards opponents pick from the discard pile.
