How to play FreeCell
Objective
Build all four foundations up by suit from Ace to King using the four free cells as temporary storage.
Setup
- All 52 cards are dealt face up into eight columns (four of seven cards, four of six).
- Four free cells and four foundations start empty.
- There is no stock pile.
Rules
- Tableau builds descend in alternating colours.
- Each free cell holds exactly one card.
- Any card may be moved to an empty column.
- You can move a sequence only if you have enough free cells and empty columns to relocate it one card at a time — the game does this automatically (a "supermove").
Strategy tips
- Keep at least one free cell open as long as you can.
- Empty columns are worth more than free cells — they double your move capacity.
- Plan the whole sequence before you commit; undo is unlimited but wasted moves add up.
