How to play Klondike Solitaire

Objective

Move all 52 cards to the four foundation piles, each built up by suit from Ace to King.

Setup

• Seven tableau columns are dealt with 1 to 7 cards; only the top card of each column starts face up.
• The remaining 24 cards form the stock, which feeds the waste pile.
• Four empty foundations sit above the tableau.

Rules

1. Tableau piles build downward in alternating colours (a red 9 goes on a black 10).
2. Foundations build upward in the same suit, starting with the Ace.
3. Only a King (or a sequence headed by a King) may move to an empty column.
4. Click the stock to turn one or three cards depending on the mode you chose.
5. Face-down tableau cards flip automatically once exposed.

Strategy tips

• Always uncover face-down cards before emptying a column.
• Don't rush every Ace to the foundation — low cards are useful for tableau builds.
• Draw-1 is far more winnable than draw-3 if you're learning.
