How to play Canfield Solitaire

Objective

Move all 52 cards to the four foundations, which all start from the same randomly-chosen rank.

Setup

• Thirteen cards form the reserve; the top one is available.
• One card starts the first foundation — its rank becomes the base rank for all four.
• Four tableau columns get one card each; the rest form the draw-3 stock.

Rules

1. Foundations build up by suit from the base rank, wrapping past King to Ace.
2. Tableau builds down in alternating colours and also wraps.
3. Empty tableau columns are automatically refilled from the reserve.
4. Tableau sequences move as a complete unit.

Strategy tips

• The reserve is your clock — dig into it whenever you legitimately can.
• Wrap-around builds catch people out; A on 2 is legal here.
• Expect to lose most deals; that's the game.
