How to play Spider Solitaire

Objective

Assemble eight complete King-to-Ace same-suit sequences; each finished run is removed from the tableau.

Setup

  • Two 52-card decks (104 cards) are used.
  • Ten tableau columns receive 54 cards; the top card of each is face up.
  • The remaining 50 cards are dealt ten at a time from the stock.

Rules

  1. Cards build downward in rank regardless of suit.
  2. Only a same-suit descending run may be moved as a group.
  3. Dealing from the stock adds one card to every column — you cannot deal while any column is empty.
  4. A completed King-to-Ace same-suit run is removed automatically.

Strategy tips

  • Start with 1-suit until the flow is second nature.
  • Empty a column early — it's the single most valuable resource.
  • Prefer moves that expose face-down cards over moves that just tidy a run.
