How to play Yahtzee
Objective
Score the most points across thirteen scorecard categories.
Setup
- Five dice and a thirteen-category scorecard per player.
Rules
- Roll all five dice, then re-roll any of them up to twice more.
- Upper section: score the total of the matching number. Scoring 63 or more there earns a 35-point bonus.
- Lower section: three of a kind, four of a kind, full house (25), small straight (30), large straight (40), Yahtzee (50) and Chance.
- Every category must be filled exactly once — you may have to take a zero.
Strategy tips
- Aim for three of each number in the upper section to secure the bonus.
- Take the zero in Yahtzee early rather than wrecking a straight.
- Chance is a useful dumping ground — don't spend it too soon.
